More Good TImes at Nizza

Man, we had such fun at Nizza La Bella last night (827 San Pablo Ave. Albany, CA). I think Champagne is the best beverage for a truly bubbly St. Pat's. We took a bunch of pic's but you'll have to visit Lyra's blog to see them as she snapped 'em: http://www.fix-8.blogspot.com/

Lyra brought me the most darling little bag of super fresh Swedish Fish. Needless to say, they've been consumed. Weird thing-- I also received an e-mail from the Visit Sweden council this morning?!? And the movie version of "The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo" was released stateside this week. Coincident? You tell me.

What’s Happening with CRUMBS IN THE BUTTER screen prints?

Crumbs In The Butter will be the featured art at NELLY'S coffee shop in Montclair (1952 Mountain Blvd.) for the month of July. She makes a great latte--come by and sip and have a look!

We have an ongoing show at Tresses 1758 Solano Avenue Berkeley. The show consists of framed screen prints ($30-60) and framed paper house assemblages ($20-30). Tresses is above Sweet Basil Cafe and is open Weds-Sunday 10-5pm.

On April 25th, an interview with Kelly will be featured on “Printsy” a fabulous blog about all matter of printmaking artistry as seen on Etsy-the handmade website. The blog link is:

Screenprints and paper assemblages are being sold at MUDD HENS in Calistoga.

Artist's Bio

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Kelly O’Keefe
Screenprints and found paper collage

Born in Plattsburg, New York in 1969, Kelly moved to Northern California in 1976. She has called Berkeley home since 2002. Kelly has a BA in English and Sociology from U.C. Davis. She has been cutting and pasting paper and words since her journalism days in high school and college. Kelly discovered screen printing in 2008 and is thrilled by the possibilities of the medium.

Kelly’s fondness for screenprinting stems from being able to readily see the hand of the artist in the end result. Each print is unique with it’s variation in image placement, ink color and background. The story told by the piece can be altered by making small adjustments during the printmaking process. Ink splatters and image over lays only add to the quirkiness of the piece.

She is obsessed with the archetypal house shape and that simple shape continues to appear in both her found-paper work and printmaking. Birds and letter forms also provide endless inspiration.

Kelly is curious about the workings of human memory and how the passage of time serves to alter recollections--for the good and bad. Much like old things with their rusty patina and cracks, memories can shift and take on new elements becoming more precious or more repellent with age. The truth of the event is scrubbed and shined and often lost in the act of remembering. Catching sight of a vintage car or certain architectural line can trigger an emotion or link directly to a memory.

Her screenprints and paper collages contain a day dream aspect. Certain art can make the observer nervous, pushing the mind to unexpected places. Other art can evoke comfort and solidity. Kelly enjoys the tiny space where the two extremes overlap. The world is saturated with images and Kelly delights in isolating a handful and reproducing them in fresh ways.
